2008 Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition (IT PC / Network Support) - Final Round

The following details introduce the scope of the competition, the working environments, and the regulations. Each competitor will be randomly assigned to his competition environment. The environment consists of a table and a set of hardware and software for the competition. The venue may be at room 348 or room 317 in the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Chai Wan). The hardware devices in these rooms may consist of minor differences. For details, refer to the working environment.

Date: 9th August, 2008 (Saturday)

Venue: Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Chai Wan)

Registration time: 9:00-9:20 (Podium, Admin. Block)

Competition time: 9:30-15:30 (Rm317, Rm348)

Lunch will be provided during the competition.

The Scope of the Competition

The final competition will be a skill-based competition. The competitors will be given a scenario and they are required to set up the required system within five hours. The competitor who scores the highest mark will be the winner. However, if more than two competitors get the same highest mark, the one who first complete the tasks will be the winner. The coverage of the competition is:

CCNA curriculum.
Wireless LAN setting with Linksys wireless router and network adapter
Domain controller set up, User account set up, DHCP, DNS, Web application, Email, FTP, File sharing, Group Policy and VPN services set up by using Fedora 8, Window 2003 Server or Window XP Professional.

Upon completion of the competition, all devices and computers will be rebooted before marking. It is important that you ensure that your configuration settings will not be affected by the reboot action.

You must disable all firewalls to facilitate marking.

The Working Environments

Room 348
Each group has a table and a nearby cabinet	Each group has a table with computer monitors on it and a nearby cabinet equipped with routers and switches. The computers are placed under the table as shown follow: List of equipments: 1 x 2801 Cisco router and IOS12.4(19) with basic IP feature set 1 x 2811 Cisco router and IOS12.4(19) with basic IP feature set 1 x 1841 Cisco router and IOS12.4(21) with basic IP feature set 2 x 2950 Catalyst switches with IOS12.1(22) with basic feature set 1 x WRT54GL Linksys Wireless-G broadband router with document and driver disk 1 x WUSB54G Linksys USB network adapter with document and driver disk 2 x computers with Window XP Professional, Service Pack 2 1 x computer with Window 2003 Server (Standard Edition), Service Pack 1 1 x computer with Fedora 8 2 sets of V.35 DTE and DCE cables 6 (Blue) + 4 (Yellow) straight through UTP CAT.5e cables 2 (Grey) cross-over UTP CAT.5e cables 6 (Grey) rollover (console) cables Each computer has a network interface card with a straight through cable connecting. The other end of the cable is connected to a socket in the upper patch panel. The socket is identified with a labeled as shown above and the computer is also identified with the same number on the monitor. The COM port of each computer is also connected by a console cable which is grey in colour. Each console cable is identified by a label as follow:
Room 317
Each group has a table with computer monitors on it and two nearby cabinets. A small cabinet contains routers and switches as shown in Photo 4. The computers are placed in the large cabinet as shown.
