History of CIM(CW)

The Department of Computing and Information Management, formerly known as the Department of Computing and Mathematics of the Hong Kong Technical College (Chai Wan), offers higher diploma courses since 1993.

Overview of the Courses

The emphasis is on co-operation, independent thinking and communication. English is the primary medium for both verbal and written work. A balanced mix of theory and practice pervades the delivery of the courses and visits presentations by industry's leaders and industrial training complement normal course activities. Students will be required to work on projects of an extended nature, either in small groups or individually in the final year. Courses are delivered through a mixture of lectures, workshops and laboratory classes. Students will be expected to explore different ways of solving problems, and devote a substantial amount of time to project development. Students will also be encouraged to work both independently and cooperatively in groups, and to communicate effectively in English.

Departmental Facilities

The department provides access to a campus-wide computer network linking hundreds of PCs and workstations. The department has 5 separate laboratories housing up-to-date equipment and specialized software for use in teaching and software development projects.
